Centripetal (2005)

Video sculpture

If you move towards a goal that is endlessly far away you almost stand still on the same spot. Any potential progress is impossible to notice. Are you closing in on your target when you are moving towards it? Is it possible to define something by slowly encircling it?

Four videos are projected from behind towards four walls which make the projection visible from all directions. The video consists of a soundless animation. From the four walls a pavilion-like construction streches out into the room.
The video shows an animation of a hallway leading towards a crossing. The camera is slowly moving forwards and at the crossing turns and faces another hallway ending in another crossing, another hallway, another crossing...
The movement is undramatic, just slowly moving inwards. You keep turning and changing direction but you are still always faced towards the centre. You circle around the core without ever reaching it.
